Trying to find the right engagement ring for your girlfriend can be a difficult challenge, and requires a significant amount of time and effort. If you want your engagement to be very memorable and if you want to have something that is very beautiful then you should probably think about choosing an antique diamond engagement ring.

Antique, or “vintage”, engagement rings are procured in one of three ways, and each has their advantages and caveats. First, you may have access to a family heirloom jewelry piece that could serve as an engagement ring. In this case, you should be prepared to have a master jeweler clean, polish, and personalize it in some way to represent the uniqueness of your relationship. (You might upgrade the stone to a larger diamond, or add sidestones or gold detail around the shank of the ring.) Second, you may discover the perfect engagement ring from a source that sells actual antiques; estate jewelry resellers, pawn shops, and online retailers are a common source for these pieces. Finally, you might purchase a new engagement ring setting from a modern-day jewelry designer which is based on an antique style. This offers the convenience and quality of contemporary jewelry construction methods, with an appearance that matches your desired style of an earlier vintage. In this case, it’s most helpful to browse the selections of online jewelry vendors that offer jewelry customization options, so that your finished piece may still be “one of a kind”.

If you’ve found an actual antique piece of jewelry to serve as an engagement ring, it’s critical that you have it carefully cleaned and reviewed by a jewelry craftsman to make sure that it’s still in good, stable condition. Some early jewelry construction methods were not as good at securing their diamonds in place in the setting, and active use may cause stones to pop out and get lost. Considering the investment required to purchase a diamond engagement setting, it’s definitely worthwhile to guard against any accidents by making sure the piece is in reliable condition. Also, if it was originally produced as a white gold ring, it will likely show a heavily worn surface that’s no longer white or shiny. This can be easily corrected by having a coating of rhodium applied, which most jewelry stores are capable of.

Your choice of engagement ring will ultimately serve as a lasting representation of your loving relationship with your future spouse, and will be treasured for a lifetime! Every ounce of research about various diamond traits, the “4 C’s”, and diamond settings will be fully worthwhile as you are able to enjoy seeing the pleasure with which your girlfriend receives the ring. Bridal jewelry is meant to last, and it’s up to you to make a regular habit of extending love, generosity, and respect to each other and enjoying the fruits of your relationship for years to come.

The Beautiful Company has been an online jewellery retailer since 2003 providing high street quality jewellery at internet prices. Their low overheads are reflected in their prices but not the quality of their jewellery as all their gold and platinum items are hallmarked in the UK and the diamonds in their diamond rings are all available with certification. They also have a 30 day moneyback guarantee so you can be assured what ever you buy will be what you want or they will give you your money back. If you are planning to buy a wedding ring or a diamond engagement ring and are short of time many of their rings can be provided within 5 days.

Small loose diamonds can have more than one dozen different shapes. The following article mentions some of the more common shapes. It does not mention the small diamonds that jewelers refer to as princess diamonds, bulett diamonds, radiant diamonds or baguette diamonds. Moreover, there is no reference to emerald cut diamonds in the article found below. Any of those diamonds can have clarity and polish as great as, or greater, than the clarity and polish on any of the certified and geometrically shaped diamonds mentioned in the following article. In addition, any of those diamonds can have a carat weight that lifts it into the category of top quality diamonds.

Whenever an expert jeweler cuts into a large diamond, that professional jeweler adds to the existing supply of small, loose diamonds. The law of supply and demand plays a part in determining the value for each single diamond. Yet the value, quality and price of loose diamonds depend, as well, on a number of other factors.

Anyone who plans to shop for small, loose diamonds needs to become familiar with each of the variables that factor into the determination of a diamond’s worth. Anyone who expects to pay a fair and reasonable price for a group of loose diamonds needs to learn both the aforementioned variables and the technical terms used to describe each variable.

In judging diamond jewelry it is a common occurrence to get a diamonds shape and the cut mixed up. The cut of a diamond describes the performance of light, dimensions, and finish. Shape is just the outline of the diamond from a top view. In judging diamond jewelry you must make sure there is a good cut. The cut of the diamond has the biggest effect on the sparkle of the diamond. A diamond that has immaculate color and is very clear can look dull with a poor cut on the stone.

In judging the value of a diamond the color of the diamond is a major factor. The diamonds with the least amount of coloring are worth the most. Even a very small amount of color in the gem can make it so the diamond’s brilliance is diminished. The higher grade the diamond is the more expensive it will be.

The weight of the carats in the diamond is important when judging diamond jewelry. The diamond in the jewelry in terms of its weight is measured in carats. Considering diamonds that are larger are also rarer than smaller diamonds the value rises very much when the weight increases. If you are buying a diamond from a wholesaler they must by law tell you the carat weight in the piece of jewelry.

In judging diamond jewelry look to see how many flaws are on the diamond. Flaws, also called inclusions, are rare and are highly valued. How the clarity is graded is based on the number, size, location, and type of the flaws found within the diamond. Make sure the flaws are picked out as if they are not the diamond will be much more expensive.

Make sure to check the cut, carat weight, color, and flaws on the diamond in the jewelry to make sure you are getting the best deal. Considering a diamond can be very expensive it is wise to understand all of these factors or get a professional to judge it for you. Also make sure the diamond is certified as the certification will guarantee its authenticity.

I tried to chronicle the new kinds of jewelries that have taken the market by storm, but then, I found that to be a daunting task! Just Google for ‘Jewelry’ or ‘Diamonds’, and you will come across literally tens of thousands of search results. One thing that is for sure is that jewelry is under going lots of change all over the world. Whether you are in Africa or in Australia, in America or in Asia, you will find new kinds and models of jewelries all over.

One more surprising thing is that all kinds of jewelries are changing. Even the age old traditional Gold and Diamond jewelry is under going a serious change, and thanks to the advent of online diamond stores, the change has become more and more prominent. In fact, it is largely due to the online retailers that jewelry has become so different. Like everything else sold online, diamonds and other forms of jewelry also appeals to a different kind of audience. The first people to shift online to buy their jewels (and the bulk of the people who do even today) were those who came for the price. In such online stores, you can also decide about the particular design you need, whether a contemporary design or something that has an antique look. If you take a look at any store, you are bound to be stunned with the variety of beautiful diamond rings for engagement, wedding and anniversary. With the kind of range and designs that are available online today, it makes perfect sense to say that it is the internet that has ushered in the new era of jewelry.

Design your own jewelry – This is probably the biggest factor that has contributed to the change in the diamond industry. When we say diamond industry, we mean jewelry in general, as the diamond retailers online also sell all the other kinds of jewelry ranging from Silver to Platinum. Leading online retailers like DiamondsonWeb have perfected the ‘Make your own jewelry’ section on their website. Many of such online diamond retailers have said that most of the customers who come to their online jewelry stores at least try out this section before going on to buy what they came for.

Designing own jewelry has become so popular with the people looking to buy jewelry and Diamonds Online that giving in to the pressure, lots of usual brick and mortar jewelry stores have also started to provide more designing options. Many have added a counter where you can mix and match materials and metals to make your own ring. But then, the kind of variety and ease with which you can accomplish your task online is unparalleled. With so many options available today I would say just Delve in and enjoy!

Diamonds are more commonly known as colorless stones that break out in brilliant fire when light strikes it. But there is a rare class of diamonds that come in different hues, called fancy diamonds or fancies. Natural diamonds can get their color from the following: trace elements in their crystalline structure, like nitrogen and boron, which can produce color; radiation present during a diamond’s creation which can generate a green color; and even inclusions that can produce unique tones and hues.

When learning about diamonds, a person typically finds out about the four important characteristics of a diamond, known as the four Cs. These are cut, color, clarity and carat. When it comes to fancy diamonds, a special kind of four Cs applies to it, in order to grade the diamond and estimate its price. Colored diamonds are graded in two ways – first by the stone’s basic hue, which can blue, pink, yellow, green, black, violet, orange and red. The second way is to ascertain the intensity of its color.

The Gemological Institute of America or GIA uses 9 different categories to grade a diamond’s color saturation, which range from Faint to Fancy Vivid. There are diamonds that form a secondary color undertone, which can either enhance or detract from its worth, depending on the color. For example, a blue diamond that is yellowish can be made less expensive because of the yellow undertone, whereas the same blue stone with a purple undertone can be worth more.

When it comes to a colored diamond’s cut, an expert cutter has to consider the inclusions in the stones, because these flaws might be the ones enhancing the diamond color. The more popular cut or shape for colored diamonds are round, oval, and radiant. As for grading clarity, a colorless diamond is usually graded according to the number of blemishes and inclusions found within the stone. But for colored diamonds, clarity is not so important, although those stones with greater clarity command a higher price since they are uncommon.

As for a fancy diamond’s carat weight, the bigger the stone, the higher the price tag, especially since large-sized fancy diamonds are rare. But a diamond’s value will also depend on its other characteristic, not just its size. It is important to compare gemstones that are of similar characteristics when determining price. The prince of a fancy diamond depends on several factors, like the rarity of its color, with red being the rarest diamond color. The intensity or vividness of its hue also determines price, as well as the purity of the stone, which can be bright and clear or clouded.

When purchasing and investing in a fancy colored diamond, it is best to ask for a lab report or grading report of the stone.

Diamond pendants, being made up of a small piece of jewelry hanging from a metal chain, will generally have less diamonds embedded into each pendant compared to diamond necklaces that may have diamonds linked to each other all throughout the length of the chain. Some people may prefer to wear diamond pendants because the beauty of the few diamonds or one diamond set into the pendant may be prettier or more appealing to see, than a host of diamonds linked to each other in a diamond necklace. But other people may like their jewelry to be flashier so they choose diamond pendants because these can show off more diamonds to whoever is watching.

Diamond necklaces may be of three types of length – you can buy the choker length, the princess length, or the opera length. Choker length diamond necklaces are those that surround the neck slightly above your collarbones. Princess length diamond necklaces are those that will hang lower than your collarbones or maybe drape just over the collarbones. (Princess length diamond necklaces are usually the most popular type of diamond necklaces bought by consumers.) The last type, the opera length diamond necklaces, are definitely more dramatic than the first two types because opera length diamond necklaces may hang over your dress front or blouse front – and so are more obvious to see. The jeweler that sells diamond necklaces to you may also have diamond necklaces that are variations of these three main types.
